Presenting Findings to Sustainability Commission and Benicia City Council!

We are so proud of our students who presented to the Sustainability Commision on our Water Conservation Challenge, and who were then invited to present to the Benicia City COuncil!

Our Water Catchment Project is Progressing!!!

Thanks to a grant from The Benicia Sustainability Commission we have been able to add a water catchment system to our sustainability projects in the BHS garden.  We have already conducted tours but plan on using it as a demonstration for our 9th grade classes as well.  Pictures and a more detailed update to come soon!

BHS ECH2O Students Work with BMS to teach Water Conservation

We were very excited this year to partner with the Solano County Resource Conservation District, who is working under a grant from the Benicia Sustainability Commission, to help teach water conservation to BMS sixth graders.  Our students helped run their data and accompanied the BMS students on their field trip.  So proud of their mentorship!

Building a Sustainable Future in Benicia

We are grateful to the Benicia Sustainability Commission for granting us the funds we will need to implement a solar power and water catchment system at BHS.  Our plan is to use this site to help educate the public and share what we learn as we carry out our project. So far students have worked to create a budget, develop a timeline using Microsoft Project, and in November 2014 they began construction!

Academy Senior Educates About Water

One of our seniors, as part of her internship with the city of Benicia, has started our water education efforts!  Anise had a booth at the first Farm to Table Expo, and worked with one of our 9th grade teachers, to educate on ways we can work to conserve water.

The City and the Academy work to Educate on Climate Change

The city has been working to create educational presentations on the Benicia Adaptation Plan.  As part of that, the city will be presenting to academy students, and other interested students at BHS.  We are hoping to participate in their King Tides Demonstration in January.

Megan Harns, the water education specialist for Solano County, came out to educate our students in January about the important water issues facing our community, and gave ideas on how we can all work together to conserve water!
